What Paramount Hotel Times Square actually is
The Paramount opened in 1928 and was reinvented in 1990 by Ian Schrager and Philippe Starck as the affordable sibling to the Royalton — a hotel where the rooms were deliberately tiny and the lobby did all the work. It was enormously influential and remains a Times Square fixture.
Later renovations have softened the original starkness, and the hotel now runs as a large, moderately priced property in the middle of the theatre district. Rooms are small. The location, on West 46th at the top of Restaurant Row, is close to unbeatable for Broadway.
