What The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel actually is
The Beekman occupies Temple Court, an 1881 office building that spent decades sealed off and forgotten. Its nine-storey atrium — cast-iron balustrades rising to a pyramidal skylight — was rediscovered during the conversion and now forms the lobby, and it is the most dramatic hotel interior in Lower Manhattan.
Martin Brudnizki designed the rooms, which are darker and more layered than the atrium suggests. Temple Court by Tom Colicchio handles dinner and the Bar Room sits directly under the skylight. City Hall, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Fulton Street transit hub are all within five minutes' walk.

Where it sits
Narrow colonial street plan under very tall buildings. FiDi empties on weekends, which is exactly why hotel rates here often beat Midtown for the same star rating.
