What The NoMad Hotel actually is
When this hotel opened on Broadway at 28th Street in 2012, the area had no agreed name; the hotel supplied one, and NoMad — North of Madison Square Park — stuck. Jacques Garcia designed the interiors as a Parisian apartment writ large: layered fabrics, dark wood, a glass-roofed atrium.
The building is a 1903 Beaux-Arts block, and the ground floor has been one of the more serious hotel dining rooms in the city since it opened. Rooms are generously proportioned with claw-foot tubs in some categories. Madison Square Park is two blocks south and the Flatiron Building is in view.
