Where it sits
The southern edge of Brooklyn: a genuine ocean beach, a boardwalk running two and a half miles, the Cyclone still rattling along on its 1927 track, and Brighton Beach next door functioning as a Russian-speaking seaside town in its own right. It is a long ride from Manhattan — around an hour on the express — but in summer there is nowhere else in the city quite like it. Hotels are seasonal and cheap.
