Forest Hills Gardens is a mock-Tudor planned suburb dropped into the middle of Queens, and it is genuinely lovely — winding streets, brick and half-timber, no grid at all. Around it, Austin Street is a real shopping high street and Queens Boulevard carries express trains into Manhattan in twenty minutes. Hotels are few, mid-market and considerably calmer than anything in Midtown.
