What Hotel on Rivington actually is

The Hotel on Rivington is a glass tower dropped into a block of nineteenth-century tenements, which was controversial when it went up in 2005 and is now simply part of the Lower East Side skyline. Every room has floor-to-ceiling glass, and because the surrounding buildings are five and six storeys, the views from the upper floors are genuinely open in a way that is rare downtown.

Some rooms have glass-walled bathrooms and outdoor terraces. The location is the heart of the Lower East Side, with the bars of Ludlow and Orchard Streets immediately around it and the Tenement Museum a few blocks south. It is a nightlife neighbourhood and the hotel sits squarely in it.

Tenement history on one block and a natural-wine bar on the next. The LES has the highest concentration of late-night rooms in Manhattan and hotel rates that undercut Midtown.
