What Martinique New York on Broadway actually is
The Martinique is one of the great surviving Beaux-Arts hotel buildings in Manhattan, designed by Henry Hardenbergh — the architect of the Plaza and the Dakota — and completed in stages around the turn of the twentieth century. The mansard roof and elaborate stonework on Broadway at 32nd Street are unmissable.
The building had a difficult period in the late twentieth century before a restoration returned it to hotel use; it now operates under Hilton's Curio Collection. Rooms are traditionally furnished with high ceilings. Herald Square, Macy's and Koreatown are all at the door, and Penn Station is two blocks west.
