What Nine Orchard actually is
Nine Orchard occupies the former Jarmulowsky Bank, a 1912 landmark built by an immigrant banker on the corner of Orchard and Canal. The restoration kept the coffered ceilings, terrazzo and marble of the banking hall, which now serves as the lobby and lounge.
The 116 rooms are muted and tactile — plaster, oak, custom brass fittings — and Corner Bar downstairs has become one of the neighbourhood's most reliable dinner rooms. Katz's, the Tenement Museum and Dimes Square are all inside a ten-minute walk.

Where it sits
Tenement history on one block and a natural-wine bar on the next. The LES has the highest concentration of late-night rooms in Manhattan and hotel rates that undercut Midtown.

Is the Lower East Side loud at night?
Parts of it are. Orchard at Canal is quieter than the Ludlow and Rivington bar strips a few blocks north, but weekends still carry street noise — request a high floor.
What was the building before?
The Jarmulowsky Bank, founded by a Russian immigrant banker and completed in 1912. Its banking hall is now the hotel lobby.
