What Sohotel actually is
The Sohotel occupies a Broome Street building whose origins as a lodging house date to the early nineteenth century, which makes it one of the oldest continuously operating hotel sites in New York. The interior has been comprehensively modernised, so do not expect period rooms, but the bones and the location are genuinely historic.
It sits on the boundary of the Lower East Side, Nolita and Chinatown, which is an unusually good position for eating and walking — Little Italy is a block west, Chinatown a block south, and the Bowery's bars immediately east. Rooms are compact and contemporary, and rates are among the lowest for the area.

Where it sits
Tenement history on one block and a natural-wine bar on the next. The LES has the highest concentration of late-night rooms in Manhattan and hotel rates that undercut Midtown.
