What The Fifth Avenue Hotel actually is
The Fifth Avenue Hotel opened in 2023 in the restored 1907 Hotel Bancroft building on the corner of 28th Street, extended by a new 24-storey tower behind it. Martin Brudnizki's interiors are the most maximalist of any recent New York opening: pattern on pattern, saturated colour, and a different design idea in almost every room.
Café Carmellini, Andrew Carmellini's flagship, occupies the ground floor and became one of the most talked-about restaurant openings of its year. The Portrait Bar upstairs is a smaller, darker room worth a detour on its own.
