What Waldorf Astoria New York actually is
The Waldorf Astoria closed in 2017 for what became one of the longest and most expensive hotel restorations in American history, converting much of the 1931 tower to private residences while rebuilding the hotel around its landmarked interiors. The Park Avenue lobby, the Grand Ballroom and the Silver Corridor were all restored rather than replaced.
The reopened hotel is smaller than the original — roughly 375 rooms against the old 1,400 — and every room is larger as a result. Peacock Alley, Lex Yard and the Guerlain spa anchor the public floors. If you knew the old Waldorf, expect the bones and not the layout.
