What The New York EDITION actually is

The EDITION occupies the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company tower on Madison Square Park — a 1909 building that was briefly the tallest in the world and is now a landmark. Ian Schrager and Marriott converted it in 2015, keeping the marble and the vaulted ceilings and inserting a restrained modern interior underneath.

The lobby is one of the better hotel spaces in the city, all dark wood and high ceilings, and the park is directly outside. The neighbourhood — NoMad and Flatiron on either side — has become one of Manhattan's strongest for restaurants. Rooms are calm and understated, which is a deliberate contrast to the drama of the public floors.
