What Park Central Hotel New York actually is
The Park Central opened on Seventh Avenue at 55th Street in 1927 and quickly acquired a reputation — the gambler Arnold Rothstein was shot here in 1928, and Albert Anastasia was killed in the barbershop in 1957. Mae West and Jackie Gleason lived in the building at various points.
Today it is a large, comprehensively renovated hotel with contemporary rooms and a good location: Central Park is three blocks north, Carnegie Hall is two blocks north-west, and the theatre district begins a few blocks south. Rates are generally below the newer Midtown hotels while the position is comparable.
