What Soho House New York actually is
The first Soho House outside London opened in a Meatpacking District warehouse in 2003 and effectively set the template for the members' club hotel. The building is six floors of stripped brick and reclaimed timber, and the rooftop has a heated pool that is one of the more sought-after summer spots in the city.
Bedrooms are available to members and, at times, to hotel guests, and they are done in the house style — freestanding baths, good linen, deliberately un-corporate. The location is prime: the High Line's southern end is around the corner, the West Village starts a block east, and Chelsea's gallery district is immediately north.
