What The Plaza Hotel actually is

The Plaza has stood at the southeast corner of Central Park since 1907, and it remains the single most recognisable hotel address in the United States. The building is a designated National Historic Landmark, and the ground floor still runs the way it always has: the Palm Court under its stained-glass ceiling, the Champagne Bar, and a lobby that functions as a public room for the whole city.

Rooms are large by New York standards, with white-glove butler service on every floor and Central Park views from the north-facing side. It is not a discreet hotel and it is not trying to be — you are paying for the address, the ceilings, and the fact that Eloise, Home Alone 2 and half of American cinema history happened here.

Questions people ask about The Plaza Hotel

Is afternoon tea at The Plaza open to non-guests?

Yes. The Palm Court takes outside reservations, and they go quickly — book several weeks out for weekend seatings, especially in December.

Are Central Park views guaranteed?

Only in room categories that name the view. Standard Fifth Avenue Rooms face the avenue or an interior courtyard, so book the Central Park View tier if the outlook matters to you.
