The East Village Standard is the calmer of the two: a slim glass tower on Cooper Square with 145 rooms, most of them with a corner of view over the low East Village rooftops. There is no nightclub here, which is the main practical difference.
Narcissa, the restaurant on the ground floor, has a garden courtyard, and the location is genuinely central for downtown — Astor Place, St Marks, NoHo and the Bowery are all within two or three minutes on foot.
