The Whitby is Kit Kemp's Midtown property, opened in 2017 on West 56th Street between Fifth and Sixth. The design vocabulary matches Crosby Street — bold pattern, commissioned art, individually decorated rooms — but the building is new, so windows run floor to ceiling and many rooms open onto private terraces.
The Whitby Bar and orangery-style restaurant sit off the lobby, and there is a 130-seat screening room in the basement. It is two blocks from Central Park, one from Fifth Avenue shopping, and a short walk from MoMA and Carnegie Hall.
